We are a kindergarten and primary school located in one of the districts of Poznań – Świerczewo. This is the poorest district of the city. People are unemployed, on unemployment benefits, have problems with various types of addiction, and even with the law. It is a neighborhood full of contrasts when it comes to social status. The children in our school come from all of these families. Our school has 530 students (6-12 years old) and 49 teachers, these are students with special educational needs, physically or emotionally disabled students, students with hearing impairment or social maladjustment, students with low vision and students with autism. We also have students – immigrants from Ukraine and Cuba and mixed families. They all attend integrated sports, theater and language classes. That is why our school implements an inclusive education model, students with special needs learn in regular classes and receive additional help or special instructions in public classes. Some students with special needs follow an individualized educational program, so it is important for our students to develop an attitude of tolerance and empathy. This project promotes a positive attitude towards other learners, not only those who may be disabled, but also those who say and look different.
